Lucas KILIAN (Augsburg 1579 - 1637) "The burial of Christ" Original burin engraving from a subject by Jacopo Robusti known as Tintoretto. Nice copy printed on a portion of laid paper bearing a "Coat of Arms" watermark similar to Heawood 493 and 502, typical of German paper production from the end of the 16th century, trimmed inside the impression of the plate without any loss and applied on the upper side to an old collection sheet on which there is a pen inscription which we will discuss later, with a trace of old gluing and a central horizontal fold visible on the verso but overall in excellent general condition. From the aforementioned inscription and from the stamp on the reverse it is noted that this print was part of the collection of the English painter Joshua Reynolds. Tintoretto's painting is now in the National Gallery of Scotland and appears devoid of the ribbed part in which the angel is represented, this table therefore also contributes to the knowledge of the original aspect of the work. Particularly beautiful is the atmosphere that reigns between the three figures of women in the foreground, on the kneeling right stands Mary Magdalene, in the center, overwhelmed by pain the Virgin.
